Native Links, the Surprising History of our First People in Golf
One of two recipients of the 2024 Coyne Prize, Mark Wagner, aka “Dr. Mark”, based in Massachusetts, is a golf historian and the founding director of the Binienda Center for Civic Engagement at Worcester State University. His upcoming book, “Native Links, the Surprising History of our First People in Golf,” (Back Nine Press) is a chronological history of the colorful, indigenous and inspiring characters of the game’s history. From Oscar Smith Bunn, a Shinnecock Montauk Native who played in the 1896 and 1899 U.S. Opens, to current players on the LPGA and Native tour circuits, the book includes a glossary of the 55 Native American owned courses in America.
